Miss Harris's Guilty Pleasures Novel gave me a reality check. It brought back unresolved issues that I had experienced in previous relationships. It was indeed inspiring, and uplifting in spirit. I would have liked to know more about sub-characters but I think this author, being a talented writer in style and voice - is just getting started...Worthy of 4.5 stars.
Guilty Pleasures is a deep read that explores one female's (Simone) personal struggles to hold on to unhealthy relationships that were doing her more harm than good. The words of inspiration really added spiritual value to the story and for that reason I was able to understand why it was important for Simone to free herself of unnecessary baggage and ultimately find peace. This book was good for my self esteem as a woman.
Guilty Pleasures is a unique book in that it has so much to offer and it raised some serious questions in me. The author got her point across with inspirationals and wisdom. Kudos on that. Simone and Andy had a doozy of a relationship. Out of control dysfunction. However, the author left me hungry for more drama from the gay neigbor who was HILARIOUS, and I think she will come back at us and give us that more...Miss Harris is a writer and has great potential. I look forward to reading more of her work.
You Go Girl...! Is what I want to say to Sonya Harris for a creative piece of art. The scripture and words of wisdom really shed light on the author's principles. I couldn't think of a better way to make a point. Guilty Pleasures is all too real and I feel like she was revealing my deep, dark secrets. From Simone the zealot, to Andy the abuser, Keisha the gold digger, and Ritchie the flamboyant one, the characters are well-developed and play their parts well.
Once again, Go Girl and I hope these words encourage you to keep writing!
Okay...Guilty Pleasures was and is a trip to read. I swear Sonya Harris didn't bite her tongue. Phony friends did it for me...I can definitely relate to them because she hit the nail on the head, when they are down and out they are calling on you, and when the sun is shining a little bit brighter,they will cast you to the side unless you have a something to give for free like gifts...I don't go to birthday parties anymore either!
Andy, my man was a frigging idiot. He was a control freak and I am glad Simone gave him pure h-e-l-l. I am disappointed the author didn't rip him a new one, but I got a feeling she's not done with him yet and he's not through with her.
Keisha the wallet chaser, now that was too funny. Money can only take us so far.
Church scene was too funny. A bunch of fake, holier than thous attend on Sundays and judge people, gossip and act like they don't know you on Monday. Huh! Thank you author for exposing the hypocrites. Church is a fashionable fad full of phonies who blame Satan for their shortcomings, their cheating husbands, promiscuity, gambling, and so on. Thank you for honesty there. IT was bold, but hey, it had to be said.
Overall, a dynamite story. Ecclectic. It had a lot to offer, I even dug the Black history spin.

We all have our guilty pleasures, for some it may be sex, others it may be food, or it may be something as innocent as a warm bath with a good book. In her debut novel, aptly titled GUILTY PLEASURES, author Sonya Harris shows just how much drama can be generated by pleasurable things.

Simone Miller is fed up. She is tired of her corporate job, the drama with her so-called friends, supporting family members, and her on-again, off-again relationship with boyfriend Andy. On the advice of a good friend, she consults Dr. Rosen, a psychiatrist, and begins to take control of her life and all the drama that ensued.

GUILTY PLEASURES takes the reader on Simone's journey as she tries to improve her life and well being by diminishing all of the unnecessary baggage she carries. She soon finds that it is not as easy as it may seem to let go of things that are good to you, but not good for you.

Sonya Harris has crafted a novel that encourages one to look within oneself and take inventory of some things that may be causing them to have social drama. The book also has tidbits of scriptures and sayings to help inspire. While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I found the sequencing a bit confusing and often had to read several passages over to see at what point they happened. Nonetheless, GULTY PLEASURES is an enjoyable read that truly lives up to its title.
When I pick up a book the first Ch has to get me and this book did not do it 4 me I tryed to go back n read it but nothing jumps for me I'm madd that waisted $15 on a paper back when I use my kindle for all other reads....sorry but I get books for $1.99 that's a page turner!
