I loved all three books in the Cheechako series by Jonathan Stratman. Very realistic about life in the Alaskan Bush. Fighting off grizzly bears, surviving an earthquake and tsunami, mushing in a sled dog race with blowing wind and snow and extreme cold, this will keep you up late at night because you will want to see what adventure happens next. This is a great series for adults and teens and you won't want the story to end.

A compelling addition to this very enjoyable series! Set in a rural Alaska that the author clearly knows intimately, this is a thoroughly involving story with intelligent characters, unexpected plot twists, and a wholly satisfying conclusion.
Once again, Mr. Stratman has succeeded in keeping me up all night in the freezing Alaskan wilderness. Few authors can evoke the chilling reality of that area as well. But the best part of reading this recent book in the series is indulging in the adventure. He crafts his stories for folks of all ages and does it so well! Don't miss this!
I can still feel the stinging wind on my cheeks and hear the frenetic yapping of the sled dogs, hours after I've finished Musher!, the new Alaskan adventure tale by Jonathan Stratman. Will has steadily grown, physically and emotionally, through the three books. In Musher, a race to the finish line is about so much more than winning. Stratman has a wonderful way of serving up really big issues--issues important to young teens--while engaged in marvelous, hair-raising adventures, in this case one heck of a ride through the Alaskan wilderness. Complete with wolverine, grizzly, and some shady human characters.
Whether you've come to care about Will and Elias, and all the strong supporting characters from the first two books, or this is your first meeting, you'll be swept up in the action from page 1. No way I'm telling you who wins!
I leaped into Musher! already in love with these kids and their Alaskan adventures from the first two books in the series (Cheechako and Float Monkeys), and WHAM! Jonathan Thomas Stratman upped the bar again, this time taking us on a dog-sled race! It's a nonstop nail-biter from start to finish. Stratman has a masterful way of putting you in the middle of the action and letting you look around at all the excitement, never letting up for a moment on the forward thrust of the plot. Parents--especially those looking for action-packed books with a strong character who's a girl--will be pleased to meet the girls featured in Stratman's series. A lively bunch of young people with incredible (though based on actual events) and rewarding challenges to face as they explore what it means to grow up in Alaska. The three-book set is definitely going to end up under the Xmas tree of every 9-14 year old reader I know, boys and girls alike.
Most Excellent. The third of a series and I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. These stories are based on real experiences by the author; in the real Alaska he obviously knows so well. The characters are 100% authentic, spot-on, and it has been fun to grow with them. I had to stay in bed late to finish the book - yes, it is that compelling. This is a book that wholly captures you - whatever your age or reading level. I liked it so much I gave a copy to my granddaughter, who is somewhat of a reluctant reader. I am sure she will be as drawn in as I was , and will be rooting for the strong female character. Does it get any better than this? If there is a fourth book, we may find out. Can't wait.
Good book if you want to read about the remote, cold way of life in the remote areas of Alaska.
This was my favorite of the series so far. I pushed finishing it into the late hours of the night. All the work the characters did and all the doors that were closed to them did not discourage them. That is a powerful thing to learn in real life. Also showed how some things are just worth working harder for instead of going the easy way and sometimes the connections to what you want to do are not realistic. Definitely would make this a read assignment if I were homeschooling still.
